I agree Baruch isn't a well known name outside NYC but the MFE is making a name for itself globally as more students work outside NY. Also placing top 3 at RITC three years in a row and 2nd place in the 2013 IAFE competition helps make a name for yourself.
I agree it may be a little tough to make a direct comparison based on one statistic but isn't a little of a stretch to say Baruch isn't in the same league without even giving a reason why?
^ custom made suits in Shanghai for $130 a piece;). But for really nice suits go to the sample sales from here http://www.soifferhaskin.com/Home.aspx though you have to wait til they have a sale for men's suits. But you can get high end designer suits for <$300
Im liking the Asus Taichi and Acer Aspire S7. The series 9 is the nicest looking laptop out there though for that price you can get the series 7 i linked which has top specs.
Not bad, but it looks like the new things is going to be convertible ultrabooks in October. I was pretty set on getting this Samsung http://www.samsung.com/us/computer/laptops/NP700Z7C-S01US until I started to see whats being offered up at Computex. Now I don't know what to do!
Well I need laptop for Baruch, though my current would suffice for a few months. Interested in being able to have a tablet for personal fun use, and I high powered laptop for programming and some gaming. All new laptops including the tablet hybrids will have ivy bridge and kepler graphics.
Even more laptops are coming out now as companies refresh their lineup with ivy bridge laptops and start a rollout of the touchscreen laptops. Do you guys think I should get a new laptop now or wait til Oct or Nov to buy one of the touchscreen Windows 8 laptops?
My girlfriend showed me this from her med school forum and thought it was a good idea. It is a list that new quant students who are looking for roommates in NYC can put their name and info down. Its on Google docs so everyone can add their name. I left it open, with no invite necessary so...
For applicants you could have a section 'Courses to fulfill pre-reqs' where you list common required pre-requisites and where a non-undergraduate could take these courses. Such as through Baruch's pre-MFE or online from NetMath.
You can look up Netmath for online courses. I just completed ordinary differential equations and it was pretty good. I recommend it if you're looking to get more math. Getting a job in finance, taking more math courses, and learning C++ will make you a good candidate.
Hi Andy, couple questions about this course. Will more be covered in this course then the material usually covered in an introductory object-oriented course? When do you expect/hope for the first class to be offered? Thanks!
While I may be able to learn the material on my own, I think it looks better to an admission board to actually have the class and grade.
As for the open ac and london international, I couldn't find any of the courses I was looking for.
I am looking for math courses offered at night or on the weekend. I am looking in particular for either an ODE class or stochastic processes class. I searched all over for something but couldn't find one. Does anyone know of anything?
I wish we had someone to give a definitive answer, I couldn't find anything searching online. Both solutions sound like logical answers but they differ.
Hmmm both solutions sounds good but since its order doesn't matter aren't you over counting.
So for this don't you have to also subtract THHHH, HTHHH, HHTHH, HHHTH as well?
This makes pretty good sense and I'm inclined to trust Tom's approval since he just took the probability refresher.
Got asked two math questions, can't remember the first one for the life of me but I know I answered it right. The second one was a probability ques. If you flip four quarters and get $1 for each head, what is the expected value? I said $2 because the flips are independent, easy enough. Then...
I have a phone interview with Jane Street in a few days for a trader assistant position. Not sure how much it would differ for a more quantatitve role, as the questions posted here, http://www.quantnet.com/forum/threads/jane-street-interview-questions.3039/, are mainly riddles. If someone has...
Thank you for your candor. The problem is I generally handle high pressure situations great which only makes me more confused about what the problem is. I am inclined to agree with you about taking it again as well but more that I can only see it doing more harm than help at this point. I'd...
I know that my GRE quantitative grade is 730 and is close to the average accepted applicant’s grade but I feel my performance on these recent courses can rest any concern on my ability. To be honest, I am not the best standardized test taker and there is a lot riding on just that one score."...
I have the ETS, Kaplan, and barrons books. Used CATgreprep.com and 800gre.com for practice. I do agree its prob my test taking skills; I rush through easy problems and make stupid mistakes. But that is what I worked on this time while studying, was to take my time.
My fear is that 800 isn't...
Thank you for your replies. I pretty much try to explain that I believe my success in the more advanced math classes I have recently taken should rest any concern about my ability.
I don't know if that is sufficient, I am torn between writing more and keeping it short and sweet.
I believe I...
I have taken the GRE three times over the past three years and have gotten a 720, 730, 720 with a 720 being from this past Monday. Over the past year I have been taking the requisite courses for admission and have been getting A's. I'm worried that my admission is going to be hindered from...
It seems his criticism is with how the econometric analysis is used more than with its process. I mean anyone can take any piece of information and manipulated to their use. But used correctly and presented properly, its a useful tool.
Assuming you mean a Masters, Fin Econ will be 4 or 5 economics courses and 3 or 4 mba-style finance courses (less quantitative finance) and is basically the mathematics of economics with some classes in finance. Where a financial engineering program will basically be the mathematics of finance...
I had to take some MBA finance courses for my econ masters. I can tell you that the MBA finance courses are similar to those, if not identical, taken as an undergrad. In the MFE you would learn the mathematics behind the finance.
I need to take a C++ course or two and want to know if anyone can recommend where I can go in NYC to take it. I saw Brooklyn College has an online intro course for $140, which for the cost and ability to study on my time would be great.
Also, another question not related. Baruch, for example, is having an info session on Tues with Prof Stefanica. Besides going to these events for more info, is it important to go to network to try help your admission? I know traditionally you dont.
They have an even further scholarship that would be full scholarship. But the goal is getting a job. And these programs have 100% placement. I understand your conclusion based on my profile, but I would not be behind in these classes, especially if i took the math refresher they all offer...
Yea thats what im worried about. I think the only way i am going to do the cqf is if i get the full scholarship. I want the MFE more and know it is more suitable for me. I am still worried about my gre and dont have time to take math courses before the dealine. i am also more worried that i...
Hi everyone. I just got accepted into the CQF program but am stuck on whether or not it is right for me. To give some background about myself: I graduated from Binghamton University in Dec 2008 with a MA in Econ and Fin with a 3.5gpa. Since then, I have had no luck find a job so I am...
