Advice appreciated for changing career to quant :)

Basic background: Did BSc and MSc in mathematics at a pretty good university in the UK. Currently, I am working full-time in education whilst doing a part-time PhD in pure maths. Unfortunately I don't have any internship experience working for companies and instead did two summer mathematical research internships at universities.
I want to switch to quant but not sure where to start apart from learning more coding languages. I heard PhD might be an advantage, but since I'm part-time, I still got about 5-6 years ahead before completing the degree.
Any advice would be much appreciated!
Thanks.
