I am looking for anyone who can shed some light on the columbia ms math.finance especially those who have applied/and or attended. I am particularly looking for some info regarding the background they look for, class profiles, etc. They do not advertise this sort of information on the website, and they do not require the gre or gmat, which only makes more difficult to try to gauge their selectivity. Thanks in advance.

If you are talking about the MA Mathematics of Finance they recommend GRE.

i think he knows that. he is more or less looking for a what are they looking for example. like how competitive admissions are.

Exactly. I know they prefer the GRE, but they will also accept the GMAT. However, neither is required, and their site doesn't provide any details regarding class profiles which makes it very difficult to see whether one is competitive for admission.
