Heh...I'm wondering whether or not I should cold-call someone who interviewed me from Google about a year ago for the same position that opened up just now. I hope it wouldn't annoy him or whatnot, because that work would be more quant/statistics related than I did on the stat-arb desk >.<...

You got nothing to lose by calling him, it's not like he thought of calling you the second a job opening becomes available.
Worst case, he'll tell you that you should go through the proper channels and not him directly.
