Relevance of Trading to Quant Work and Hedge Funds

1)Is there any value(if so how much?) in being trained as a trader/stockbroker in relation to being a quant/ financial analyst?

2)Hypothetically, would being a trader first provide one with knowledge that's applicable and valuable to being a CFO/ Hedge Fund Manager??
 
Depends on what type of trader u are. What does it mean to be trained as trader/stock broker? They are two diff positions. Most traders who work for brokers are monkeys. They just execute trades based on what client wants. There are traders who have an innate intuition on how markets work and those traders are rare. They are the ones who end up making the big bucks. But then there are systematic traders who create a strategy and stick to it regardless of market scenario.
