C++ Online Certificate Students' intro thread

    Thought I'd start a thread to get to know my fellow coursemates.

    Objective: To learn C++ for admission to MFE programs.

    Programming experience: C, MATLAB as part of BEng coursework. Coded an EEG pattern recognition algorithm in MATLAB for BEng thesis.

    Current work: Aerospace engineer (no programming work :()

    Intended pace of program: Currently studying for CFA Level I in Dec 2011. Also taking Chicago MSFM prep course starting Oct 4. Hence, I intend to take this at a slower pace until after the CFA exam, and hit the pedal during December. (I hope this won't pose a problem as I understand there are time limits for clearing each module.)

    Hi all, I am a maths student from Sydney.

    Objective: Learn C++ for admission to MFE programs (just like jackcoke) and use that in my final year research project which might be published.

    Programming Exp.: VBA

    Current Work: Final year mathematics student.

    Intended pace: Wish to complete the course early next year, around Jan, as I will be free during December after the end of this semester, i.e. my final year.

    Programming experience: C (embedded / dsp), Python, Matlab, assembler

    Current work: Electronic engineer / optical physicist

    Intended pace: As quick as I can!

    Current Work: Graduated in 2011 with a degree in Economics, seeking employment and studying for CFA L1.

    Objective: Learn C++ for admission to MFE programs / apply to present work functions
    Programming Experience: intro to c++ many, many years ago, and a little vba some years ago
    Current Work: dealer in an emerging market commercial bank treasury
    Intended pace: hopefully done by end 2011, but no later than Jan 2012

    Hi everyone! I'm very excited to take this course with you.

    Objective: Admission to MFE programs.

    Programming experience: A little C, a little MATLAB, a little VBA. "A little" means I really need to learn programming!;)

    Current work: Final-year Math/Econ Undergrad. Doing an internship at a small Hedge Fund.

    Intended pace of program: Hopefully by Dec. 1.

    Objective: I plan to learn some skills from this course to jump start my learning curve into developing own trading applications and systems.
    Programming Experience: Did some VBA during a grad course module about 12years ago. But otherwise I consider myself a non-programmer.
    Current Work: Private trader
    Intended pace: Jan 2012.

    Hi everyone! I am so excited to be here :)

    Objective: Admission into a top MFE Program for Fall 2012

    Programming Experience: JAVA, SQL, HTML/CSS, a little C++ and a little PHP

    Current work: I graduated from Rutgers with a double major (Mathematics and Information Technology & Informatics). Currently I am working at a firm that provides institutional investment data and analytic solutions as well as hedge fund data, research and news.

    Intended pace of program: Hopefully by end of December

    Current work: Studying to get into MFE program.

    Hello, it feels great to be part of this course and I am excited to be part of the first group.

    Objective: To learn C++ for admission to MFE programs and to help in developing my own applications

    Programming experience: Little C, Little C++, PHP, HTML/CSS, Little SQL, Pascal, UNIX Shell Scripting.

    Current work: Seismic engineer with an oil and gas field services firm. My job entails working on the international water zones for oil and gas exploration. Involves a lot of traveling and a lot of usage of UNIX.

    Intended pace of program: Currently studying for a technical oral exams to be a Senior Seismic Engineer (Managerial Position). I will be through with the oral exams by the end of October to enable complete the course hopefully by the end of December or January.

    Current Work: MBS Analytics at a Broker-Dealer
    Intended Pace: Not sure, this area is still under evaluation as I assess the difficulty of the course work.
