I'm a final year undergrad. I was wondering whether top schools take in freshers...guys with virtually no work exp in top MFE/MSFE programs. If they do can anybody tell me what is the expected GRE score from such a candidate.

It depends on the school to which you are applying to . In general the schools in which MFE is handled by the business schools (CMU, UCB) take work experience more seriously while admitting students.

Also, even when universities do not take work experience seriously, it would be really useful to get a good job upon graduation.

From nyu web site :

Work experience is not necessary to gain acceptance into the full-time program, though it can be helpful for finding a job after the program.

As far as GRE scores are concerned , full mark in Quant section is expected.

Thanks babinu...this is a follow up to the previous question.... Could you ball-park the score on verbal section as well?? Is it possible to get into one of these programs directly out of college??

My experience: no working experience, GRE verbal 151.
Admitted at CMU.

Just look at the tracker if you want to get more information about similar cases.

I do not think the verbal score is that important (however it is always better to have a decent one). However , I believe the writing section is more important than the verbal one.

Also as pinpointed by Math Andrew , you can check out the tracker for getting a better idea of the similar cases.

Thanks
Babinu
