So how can I be a quant?

This question has probably been posted before, but could not find a straight answer. From what I understand, you have to have a degree in economics, and preferably in physics, and a PHD would be nice to have in either of those. Is this right?
I was checking the salaries, and I find them a bit low, I mean for someone who has 2 degrees and a PHD, should be earnin around 200-250K USD, but that's not really the case.... but the role itself is fascinating for me, so money is not the main motivational factor.
 
A nurse in UK starts at 21K per annum.

Having 3 degrees can be a bit overkill. At some stage industry experience is important.

Are you sure? How do you know? have you spoken with people in the field? It could be massively boring sometimes.

it's not a matter of the number of qualifications, but the amount of money you can bring to the table.
