I have a feeling that until recently when the quant profession and MFE programs aren't yet well known, the people working in the actuarial field actually enjoys their job.
I personally know three -- two full-qualified and one part-qualified -- who got so bored with the monotony of the work (albeit well-paid) that they retrained as school teachers. I think working actuaries make a handsome living and have secure jobs: what more could one ask for in this tempestuous world?
