Transition from application development to Algorithmic Trading?

Hello everbody, this is my first post on this forum. I am very strongly considering making a transition from application development to algorithmic trading. I have a master's in Computer science and work at a Big Four accounting company as a .Net Developer. I do not have any formal finance education; however i have some experience of short term trading.

Would going back to school and get a second masters in financial engineering be a good option? Considering the current crisis, is this a good time to go to school for master's? Would there be job opportunities in this field considering the current financial crisis?
Any insight and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

-thanks,
