If after college I have some military service, say until I'm 28, then take 6 years to get a PHD, so I'd be 34, would I be totally put off for quant careers?

Assuming the PHD was from a target school, would I have a good shot at getting a career even though I had irrelevant work experience? What about if I was in the military until I was 30?

How old are you now? If you are looking at 10 years down the road, things could be completely different. Quants might not even exist.
